AAM hosted it’s very first #AAMvisits to the newly completed Huravee School in Hulhumalé by ArchEng Studio last Saturday. We were fortunate to be able to get a glimpse of the largest school in the country a day before it was opened.

The visit was open to built-environment professionals and was conducted by members of the design team from ArchEng Studio, as well as site architects and supervisors from the developer Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

The design architect led the tour and explained the concepts behind the form of the building as well as certain elements of design. The HDC team also shared their experience and complexities faced during construction.

Some of the unique spaces introduced into the design of the school included the cafeteria with open terrace, a walk-able ramp up to the fifth floor, and common open spaces for holding outdoor classes.

We appreciate ArchEng Studio for leading the tour and presenting their design, and to HDC for facilitating the visit. The school was officially opened the following Sunday with the start of the 2019 academic year.

We look forward to hosting more such visits throughout the year to interesting architectural sites.
